Since the launch in 2006, my team of coaches, with the help of the local clubs the members have had some remarkable successes.

Emmanuel OkpokiriEmmanuel Okpokiri

  • 2009 English Schools Champion at Senior Boys (U18) at 110m Hurdles
  • Represented England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India, December 2008, reaching the final
  • Currently ranked 7th at U20 110m Hurdles
  • 2009 competitions at high profile international events including the McCain Loughborough International Bedford International Games



Newham Swords

The NSA also works with local clubs to deliver the stars of tomorrow. The Newham Swords were set up in 2004 by Olympian Linda Strachan with funding from London Borough of Newham.

Ife KumblerIn 2006, she realised that she had taken them as far as she could with the funding available and approached the NSA. Now in June 2009, the club has 2 boys in ranked in the GB Cadet rankings, Amol Rattan who is 5th and Alex Savin who is 7th.

Both fencers have represented both England and Great Britain this year. Alex also competed in Paris earlier this year, beating 365 U15 boys from 23 countries to win the 2009 Paris CEP Marathon.

Ife Kubler, 14, is on course to become Newham Swords first female in the top 10 in the GB Cadet U17 rankings, she's currently ranked 20th.
