Why the Academy is
different
It taps into grassroots and
community sport talent at a level largely overlooked by other
bodies.
- It doesn't just support those who have proven
talent. We particularly look for those who have raw talent and
potential, and provide support to mould that
talent
- It is member centred. It provides the services and support
members need where they need it - in their clubs or school, at the
gym, in university sport science camps, in competition across the
UK
- It supports young people and disabled athletes from a range of
different Olympic sports
- It challenges governing bodies of sport to work in areas where
they do not have strong links. Boxing, Judo, Swimming, Athletics
have become close partners in the last year, and are seeing the
results in finding new talent
- It gives vital lifestyle, sports science, sports medicine and
training support to young people who can slip through the support
network, because their clubs or governing body can't cover all the
costs
- It provides a holistic package of support, as listed above,
rather than just money to help members excel
- Its team of coaches (including former GB internationals
Clarence Callender, Linda Strachan and Tony Jarrett) plays an
important role in day to day scouting, training and
mentoring
