Newham Sports Academy with Tessa Sanderson
I’m Tessa Sanderson, I competed in a record six consecutive Olympic games between 1976 and 1996 winning the gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the Javelin, so I know what it is like to fulfil my sporting dreams.
Wining the bid for the London 2012 Games is the best thing that has happened to sport in this country and I want them to be the best thing that has happened to sport in Newham too
I set up the Newham Sports Academy in October 2006 to help give the young people of Newham the opportunities to find their true potential through their chosen sport, regardless of background or disability. We are delivering on the promise to create a world-class sporting nation.
Since the launch in 2006, my team of coaches, with the help of the local clubs the members have had some remarkable successes.
How you can get involved
As we get closer to 2012, the NSA is focussing on it’s members who have the best chance of qualifying for the Games.
However, we are still looking for young people, over 17 who have the potential to switch from their sport to athletics. NSA coaches will be at some of Newham’s large events throughout the year.
If you are involved in a World Class Programme or ranked in the top 10 of your age category in your sport, we would love to hear from you. Please email richard.webb@newham.gov.uk with your details.
Funding Partners
The NSA is funded by the London Borough of Newham with a broad range of funding partners including ExCel, CLM, the Football League and London Swimming. If you’re interested in becoming a partner in the NSA please contact richard.webb@newham.gov.uk with your details.
