It is Newham's second plan - it builds on the extensive work that
is already underway in the borough and defines our future direction
and priorities. We are developing this plan now as we want to
clearly communicate how we will be moving forward over the next
four years to improve outcomes for children and young
people.
To inform our choice of priorities, during spring 2010 we
consulted with children and young people, building on the issues
they had raised during the final refresh of the previous plan in
2009. In addition, in response to feedback from 2009, we focused
this year on the parents and carers of children with disabilities
to seek their views.
These were analysed in connection with Newham's young people's
needs assessment and other detailed work including a child poverty
needs assessment, which bring together information from sources
within Newham Council and its partners, and information collected
on behalf of the government. This ensures our direction is informed
by both the needs and the aspirations of young people in
Newham.
This plan is part of the wider strategic framework for taking
forward the ambitions for improving the lives of residents in
Newham agreed by the Newham Partnership and the Mayor, and includes
Newham's child poverty strategy. These ambitions, and the approach
to realising them, are set out in Newham's Sustainable Community
Strategy, the Local Area Agreement and the corporate plans of the
partners in the Newham Children's Trust.
