How will BSF affect your school?

Secondary schools in Newham will be designed to deliver a 21st Century curriculum within a 21st Century environment. Find out below what developments are planned for Newham's schools.

Brampton Manor

Two thirds of the school had already been modernised under the Brampton 2000 Project, which included a new floodlit synthetic turf pitch. In 2005, a new 'state of the art' Sports Hall was provided as part of the BSF 'Quick Win' programme. This investment totalled over £1.5 million. The latest investment allowed the completion of remaining areas of the school through the refurbishment of general teaching spaces, halls and two gymnasia. A new state of the art theatre and a Media block have been completed.

Lister Community School

A new nine-form entry school has been built on the current site, with the existing sports hall and dance studio retained. This new three-storey building was opened for students in September. High quality classroom facilities, quiet and individual study areas and meeting rooms have been provided. The redevelopment of the site has enabled Lister to continue to deliver its programme of fully inclusive education with particular provision for students with hearing impairment.

Rokeby Community School

Rokeby has be relocated and rebuilt at a new site in Canning Town, where major regeneration of the whole area is planned. The school includes a six-court sports hall that is intended to have considerable community use, as well as a multi-use games area. The new Rokeby School was opened to students in September and its formal opening ceremony took place on November 4th.

Sarah Bonnell Community School

An extensive programme of remodelling and refurbishment has enabled outdated parts of the school to be brought in line with those which have been more recently redeveloped. A new wing on the corner of Deanery Road and Water Lane has been built and there is a new dining block adjacent to Water Lane.

Eastlea Community School

The redevelopment of the site will enable Eastlea to continue to deliver its programme of fully inclusive education with particular provision for students with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. (PMLD) The remodelling, which began in July 2010, will include the building of a new dining and Art block, a wholly refurbished Science block and the refurbishment of the DT area. A new entrance will mean that students and visitors will access the school via Pretoria Road rather than Exning Road as at present.

Forest Gate Community School

The refurbishment and remodelling of the school will make all internal and external areas accessible to all students, with particular attention paid to the needs of visually impaired students. A new sports hall has been built alongside Forest Lane with an undercroft, housing admin areas, an area for Business and Enterprise and a cyber-café. This building was completed and handed over to the school at the end of November. Many other parts of the school will be modernised or refurbished.

Langdon Community School

Langdon School will be completely remodelled to create Newham's first 'all-through' school, to include pupils from Nursery age to Year 11, (3 to 16 year olds). The primary element of the school will be equivalent to a 3-form entry school. The secondary element will retain its current 12-form entry roll and accommodation will be consolidated within a reduced and rationalised area. A considerable refurbishment plan will dramatically improve the facilities across the whole site and there will be significant elements of new-build in the project.

The Royal Docks Community School

Facilities for students with special educational needs and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) will be improved and moved to new purpose-built rooms in what was previously an adult-learning unit. The dining area will be considerably increased in comparison to the very small dining facilities available at present.
