Building Schools For
The Future
The Building Schools for the
Future (BSF) programme was a government initiative aiming to
promote a change in the quality of educational provision by
re-building or refurbishing all maintained secondary schools in
England over a period of 10-15 years.
The aim was to create world class, flexible and
adaptable teaching and learning environments compatible with the
21st century. Educationalists are aware that the world is changing
and in the 21st century school-leavers will need to be increasingly
flexible, technology-aware and with a very different skill-set from
their forebears.
Eight schools in Newham benefitted from the BSF programme and the
details of each separate scheme can be found on the
LEP website.
Remodelling and rebuilding schools here in Newham has provided an
opportunity to rethink how education is delivered in schools and
how to ensure that the right facilities, environment and
opportunities can allow secondary school pupils to reach their full
potential.
Studies have shown that new and innovative building and classroom
design can impact on the effectiveness and experience of learners,
teachers and the wider community of users.
