Education Welfare
Service - what we do
We work to ensure that no Newham
child is socially excluded, that all have equal access to education
and are protected, supported and encouraged.
This is in keeping with the five outcomes of the
Every
Child Matters agenda, recently implemented by the
government.
We have an
Inclusion
Policy for all of Newham's schools to ensure that all children
receive the best possible education irrespective of their
background or circumstances.
Our duties are:
- To ensure that central government, local government and
individual school attendance targets are met, and exceeded
- To take action with regard to children who do not attend school
regularly
- To support families of such children, and to prosecute parents
who fail to ensure that their children access their right to an
education
- To ensure that all of Newham's children are protected,
supported and encouraged, as per the five outcomes of the Every
Child Matters agenda, recently implemented by the government
- To ensure that no Newham child is socially excluded, ensuring

- To ensure that child protection procedures are adhered to by
schools and other associated professionals
- To liaise with all partners with regard to attendance and child
protection

employment
