Moving on from school
at 16
Our schools have strong links with
local business and industry, a good start in learning about the
world of work.
All Newham secondary
and special schools are members of the Newham Education Business
Partnership (NEBP). It helps them form close working partnerships
with local businesses, large and small, and with community
organisations.
The last year of school
Your son or daughter must stay at school until the end of the
school year when they are 16. In this last compulsory year we
encourage all young people who can benefit to take public
examinations. The best known qualifications are GCSEs, but others
like GNVQ are increasingly important.
Choices at 16
At the age of 16 there are three main choices for your son or
daughter - a job, a training scheme, or further study. All our
schools have careers teachers to help young people make the right
choice.
More than half of our young people stay in education, either full
time or part time. And most of them find the course of their choice
at a
college or sixth form centre in Newham.
