The Newham
story
The Newham Story is a website
designed as an introduction to the history of the area.
This part of East London has only been known as the London Borough
of Newham since 1965, but the booklet records the progress of the
area over the last 150 years. It details the areas transformation
from a rural backwater to a major manufacturing centre, its
subsequent decline and its current regeneration.
The booklet is aimed at past and present residents, teachers and
students, and those who have come to work in the borough who would
like to know something about its past.
