The Athletics Club welcomes prospective athletes from the age of 8 years and upwards, offering them the opportunity to train and compete in Track & Field Athletics, Cross-Country and Road Running in various leagues throughout the country. Our track headquarters are at Terence McMillan Stadium, behind Newham Leisure Centre 281, Prince Regent Lane, Plaistow, London E13 8SD.

Newham and Essex Beagles are one of the leading Athletics Clubs in Great Britain. The club was formed in 1887 as the Beaumont Harriers but became the Beagles in July 1891. Headquarters are at the Terence McMillan Stadium, the club competes in the British League and Southern League along with the young athletes league for competitors under the age of 17.

Our aim is to encourage our members to fulfil their athletic potential by providing excellent coaching, training facilities and athletic competition. We are an inclusive club, and welcome members of all abilities, regardless of age, gender, disability and ethnicity. We cater for people of all standards, men and women, children, juniors, adults and veterans.

The club's former members include double Olympic decathlon gold medallist, Daley Thompson. Current members include Mo Farah, Christine Ohuruogu, Asha Philip, Chris Tomlinson, Steve Lewis, Steve Green, Michael East and partially sighted Nigerian Paralympics and Commonwealth Gold medalist Adekunle Adesoji.

We welcome new members - Athletes, Coaches, Officials, and Supporters who are as important as the Athletes themselves.

Training sessions

The club welcomes prospective athletes the opportunity to train and compete. You are not required to join in the first place, as we offer the opportunity to sample the club over 3 consecutive weeks before deciding to join. It is obviously necessary to join before being able to compete for the club.

We suggest you visit the track on a Wednesday evening and ask for Tim Mundle, Dave Green or Lauretta Hamilton. Our aim is to encourage our members to fulfil their athletic potential by providing excellent coaching, training facilities and athletic competition.

We provide coaching in all athletic disciplines - track and field, cross country and road running. Training sessions take place on the following days:

Mondays 18.00 pm - 21.00pm
Wednesdays 18.00 pm - 21.00pm
Sundays 10.00 am - 13.00pm

Buses 147, 262, 300, 376 and 473 all stop near the main entrance to Newham Leisure Centre. By car A13 into Prince Regents Lane.
