Are some offers of
accommodation still made by council officers?
The majority of lettings are made
though the Choice Based Lettings Scheme by advertising properties
and inviting applications from eligible people.
However, certain groups of applicants may still receive
direct offers of accommodation.
This may be because they have an emergency situation or because
they are unable to move quickly under the Choice Homes Scheme, but
it is in the Council's interest that they do so.
Applicants that might receive a direct offer following appropriate
assessment, include :
- Those suffering serious harassment or domestic
violence
- Those with urgent medical or social/welfare
needs
- Council tenants who are occupying a property larger than
they need
- Council tenants who are living in properties that need
major repair works
- People who live in a property that needs to be vacated as
part of a regeneration scheme.
