Is there anything that
might prevent me from being offered housing?
In the following situations, if
your circumstances place you in the Priority Homeseeker category,
we will give your application less priority than other
applications:
- In certain circumstances, if you live outside the
borough (see
'Who Can Register for Housing?').
- If you own, or have a financial interest in, a property or if
you are a Council tenant and you are actively seeking to buy your
home under the Right to Buy.
- If your circumstances change and you fail to notify the
Council. For example, if you have changed your address or if
anybody included in your housing application is no longer living
with you.
- If you are a tenant of the Council and your rent account is in
arrears.
- If you have any other property-related debts. For example, if
you have a rent arrears debt from a former tenancy, or if you owe
rent to your current landlord.
- If you have breached the terms of your present tenancy in other
ways, such as committing anti-social behaviour and court action is
being taken against you because of this.
- If you make a false declaration.
(In the latter four situations, we may decide not to give your
application any priority at all, and place you in the Homeseeker
category).
What if I am unhappy with the way I have been dealt with?
