Housing
strategy
The Housing Strategy sets out in
detail what we will be doing over the next ten years.
Our 10-year Housing Strategy was produced in 1999. It
ambitiously attempted to identify the direction of Newham's housing
markets and create a cross-tenure vision.
Following progress, shown in annual updates, we produced a Fit for
Purpose Housing Strategy update and HRA Business Plan in 2003. This
meant that we were not required to submit further updates to the
Government. Since then, Newham has seen much change within its
housing markets and wider communities, in common with the rest of
London and the South East.
We are now revising our Housing Strategy. This revision is
especially important given that housing is recognised as important
for regeneration, tackling social exclusion, and developing
sustainable communities.
We anticipate that the new strategy will be produced in 2008. It
will be aligned with the wider council goal of making Newham a
place where people want to live, work and stay.
