Private Sector Housing
Team
The Private Sector Housing Group
deals primarily with private rented housing in the borough,
reacting to complaints from tenants about poor housing conditions
and ensuring homes meet the decency standard.
The service aims to improve conditions and quality of
management of all private rented property and shared housing
(Houses in Multiple Occupation - HMOs).
We use enforcement powers, statutory regulation, advice and
assistance in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of
tenants and occupiers across tenures.
The service has a wider role in promoting quality, safety, choice
and opportunity in the private sector housing stock which now
comprises 80% of all housing in Newham.
