Asbestos Audit Team
Service
The Asbestos Audit Team provides a
consultation and advice service to all council services, council
employees and residents of the borough.
We work in liaison with council services to ensure that
asbestos-containing materials (ACM's) are being correctly managed
within council controlled non-domestic premises, e.g. - schools,
civic buildings, libraries, community centres etc.
We formulate and regularly review the Council's Corporate
Asbestos Management Policy and Procedure in order to ensure that
the Council and its officers continue to comply with statutory
legislation.
We produce Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes containing
asbestos management information.
We are presently undertaking a programme of surveying for ACM's
within council controlled non-domestic (workplace) premises. The
information resulting from these survey inspections/assessments
being recorded within a central asbestos register.
We undertake regular re-inspections of premises that have been
previously surveyed (the re-inspection frequency being determined
by risk assessment) in order to monitor the condition of any ACM's
that still remain in place within these premises.
When planned construction and building maintenance activities
involve the disturbance of ACM's within council controlled
non-domestic premises, we liaise with premises
controllers/co-ordinators, project managers and contractors to
provide suitable project advice and guidance.
When these projects commence, we monitor and audit the works to
ensure that they are carried out in compliance with statutory
legislation and with the Council's own Corporate Asbestos
Management Policy and Procedure.
We provide asbestos awareness and asbestos management training
to council services, premises managers and staff.
