Residents
Charter
The Canning Town and Custom House
Charter sets out the council's commitments to tenants, leaseholders
and freeholders directly affected by the regeneration.
In November 2011 the Mayor of Newham approved an
updated version of the Charter following a review. This latest
version keeps all the commitments that are so important to
residents such as the right to remain a council tenant, and the
right to stay in, or return to the area.
The Charter has also been updated to reflect current circumstances
and to clarify certain points where necessary. Residents were
involved in the review of the Charter and all affected residents
were consulted before the latest version was approved. Residents'
comments have led to some important changes such as a new
commitment to producing an Annual Report that will inform residents
of progress and include details of proposed timescales. The latest
Charter also contains a section detailing how individual residents
and the wider community can be involved in the regeneration of the
area.
