You may already be aware by now of various Government
announcements about the need for savings in the public sector. We
are facing extremely hard times, with unprecedented central
government funding cuts.
Newham is acting decisively to ensure as much money as possible
goes to our front-line services and have as much control as
possible in responding to funding loss.
Our full commitment to providing our residents with the services
they need and deserve remains.
However, on the staffing front one of the actions we must take is
an immediate recruitment freeze across the Council and re-consider
whether the positions that are vacant are absolutely essential
posts to be filled.
Where we have recognised that it is vital to continue with
recruiting to posts we will do so via our normal recruitment
process. Where we have decided not to progress with recruitment
activity and you have submitted or were due to submit an
application we apologise for the inconvenience.
