Council partnership sends anti-social behaviour packing

break

May 2009

I was proud to show Home Office Minister, Alan Campbell, how targeted Government funding and a partnership between the council, police, residents and businesses has transformed a Manor Park housing estate that had been plagued by anti-social behaviour into a safer place to live.

Since 2006, residents had suffered intimidating behaviour, vandalism, illegally driven vehicles and loud music from car stereos. Many of the youths responsible did not even live on the estate.

Since measures were taken, which included CCTV, door entry systems, ASBOs and regular police patrols, calls to the council's anti-social behaviour hotline from the estate have fallen, with only ten between January and April, compared to 24 over the same period last year.

Safety remains your top concern and, by extension, one of ours. Crime and anti-social behaviour in all forms are unacceptable and we will deal with the minority who try to make life miserable for the rest of us.

Our work on the Snowshill Estate illustrates the already excellent relationship we have with the local police. We will continue to work closely with residents to respond to the different problems that exist in the area.
