More than 1,200 people joined in the fun at the East Ham Spring
Festival, which was the first of our Active Community Team events
to be held this year. |

school on track
Together with Richard Cherry, deputy chairman of Countryside
Properties, and local councillors, I joined excited pupils from
Keir Hardie Primary School to help them lay the first foundations
for their new state-of-the-art building, which forms the heart of
the Fife Road regeneration scheme in Custom House. |

honours Bobby Moore OBE
I laid flowers at the Champions sculpture on Sunday on behalf of
the people of Newham to honour West Ham United and England legend
Bobby Moore OBE on the 20th anniversay of his death. |

remembers the Holocaust
The current edition of the Newham Mag features an article on Newham
Council's commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day, which featured
candles, poems, testimonies and readings, in remembering the six
million Jewish people who lost their lives. |

I joined West Ham United officials and supporters to promote
tolerance and inclusion by marking Holocaust Memorial
Day. |

I visited the sheltered housing scheme at Centenary House in
Wingfield Road, Stratford, to present Christmas food hampers to the
residents on behalf of the traders at the indoor market in
Stratford Shopping Centre. |

Get the Party Started hits 1,000 mark
It was a pleasure to be able to join more than 200 people at a
Christmas tea dance for the over 50s, made extra special because it
was the 1000th Let's Get the Party Started celebration. |

Hallsville Quarter, which will be the new centre of Canning

Santa Claus was the guest of honour when he joined me to switch on

Turning on the Stratford Christmas lights from the Old Town Hall in
Broadway is always a pleasure and this year we were accompanied by
the sound of music. |

I went to Kingsford School in Beckton to officially open a memorial
garden, which commemorates lost friends and acts as a place of
inspiration, comfort and hope. |

The cold and wet weather couldn't dampen the spirit of more than
100 children who joined me in helping to switch on the Christmas
lights in East Ham. |

Coffee
morning raises cash to fight cancer
We recently held a coffee morning held at the council's Newham
Dockside offices, and raised more than £650 for the charity Breast
Cancer Care. |

action to tackle rogue landlords
A landlord has been fined £1250 for forcing two pensioners to
live in this dilapidated home. |

A time to
remember
I joined the Remembrance Sunday service at the St Luke's Memorial
in Tarling Road, Canning Town, with members of the Royal British
Legion, uniformed services and residents, to lay a wreath on behalf
of the people of the borough. |

You can't have failed to notice that a lot of the shops have
launched their Christmas campaigns and are already stocked with
festive gifts. |

Raising aspirations is a crucial part of the work we are doing to

Ohio closes in on crime
Tackling crime is my top priority and I was very pleased to see
first-hand how we are taking on people who commit crime or
anti-social behaviour. |

tributes to fallen police officer
We have a strong relationship with our colleagues in the
Metropolitan Police which together has created a very effective
partnership. We united again to remember Police Constable Nina
Mackay and lay flowers in her memory. |

Nathan is
an inspiration to us all Newham and winners are becoming
a wonderfully regular occurrence in 2012 and now it's the turn of
an inspirational teacher. |

Waterfront festival brings the docks to life
I was delighted that so more than 17,000 people made it down to the
Waterfront festival at the Royal Victoria Docks. It was an amazing
event that brought the community together |

to a working class hero
The Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government,
Hilary Benn, came to Stratford Old Town Hall to help us mark a
significant landmark in the history of the area. |

Farewell
salute to The Queen's man in Newham
I was delighted to be able to lead the salute at Stratford Old
Town Hall for Colonel Mike Dudding, who has stood down as the
Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Newham after 19
years. |

cracks down on crime in the borough Crime is a big concern
for everyone in the borough and I've made a commitment to take
action against those who break the law. |

Thank you to Eastlea pupils for carnival success It seems
like a lifetime ago now but this summer's Newham Carnival was the
biggest-ever and helped bring almost everyone in the borough out to
celebrate. |

When we first thought of having a music festival in Central Park
over 10 years ago, I would never have believed it would turn into
such a fantastic spectacle. This year over 42,000 of you enjoyed
