People from Forest Gate and East Ham turned out in force
to help make two of the borough's much loved green spaces even
better and brighter.
East Ham Community Forum's Make a Difference Day took place on
Saturday March 31 at Roman Road Open Space, with the Forest Gate
event held on Sunday April 1 at Forest Lane Park.
Residents got active and helped spring clean the parks by doing
some litter picking, pruning, trimming and painting.
Forest Gate resident Sue Hudson had a wonderful time with her
seven-year-old daughter Kallista. She said: "At first Kallista
wasn't too keen to help but once we got started she was so excited
and really enjoyed it. We collected litter for an hour and came
back with two full bags of recycling and rubbish.
"She's learnt a valuable lesson and was telling other people to
join in to help the environment and the community. It was a proud
moment - she far exceeded my expectations."
Deputy community executive adviser for environment Councillor
Pat Sheekey said: "It was wonderful to see so many people,
especially lots of children, participating with such
enthusiasm."
It wasn't all hard work. The parks were bustling with
activities, including face painting, bouncy castles and free health
checks by Newham Fit Club.
There are nine Community Forums in Newham working to make each
area a safer, healthier and more interesting place to live.
The Forums are for people to have their say and agree priorities
for their community.
