Get into the spirit of music and dance with a month of activities and events to suit all ages and tastes, from chamber music, tea dances, jazz, folk, Bollywood, salsa to hip hop, grime and metal.

Presented by Newham Council, the month kicks off with Under the Stars, the annual free four-day music festival held in Central Park from August 30 to September 2.

One of the highlights of Music and Dance Month includes Dancing in the Streets, a weekend of dance with toe-tapping fun at community centres throughout Newham.

From Friday September 14 to Sunday 16, revellers can enjoy watching or taking part in an eclectic mix of dance moves including tea dances, ballet, Bollywood, African, line dancing and street dancing.

Dance sensation and choreographer to the stars Honey Kalaria and performers from the Honey Dance Academy will captivate the audience with their sensational moves at the Upton Community Centre on Sunday September 16. Honey was one of the judges on Channel 4's Bollywood Star and was the Bollywood guru on ITV's For One Night Only.

The month ends with London Homegrown, showcasing some of the UK's finest hip hop and grime performers, presented by Urban Development and Dat Sound and supported by online music station Pyro Radio and King Clothing.

Top London-based Irish MC Shameless will be performing, together with grime favourites Ndubz, hip hop legend Skinnyman and mixtape favourites L.Man and Wretch32 will be at Stratford Circus on Saturday September 29 from 7.30pm.

Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales said: "September promises to be a great month for all things musical. There is such a vast array of different music and dance events happening in Newham that there will definitely be something for everyone."
