Newham Council is organising free guided walks every
weekend to encourage people to visit the site for the 2012 Games
while they still can.
Thousands of people have already followed the walking trail
along some of the borough's most picturesque waterways. The route
passes the sites for all the main venues for the Games, as well as
places of historical interest.
Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, said: "By 2012 this part of
the borough is going to be transformed and people should take the
opportunity to see just how much will be happening in their
backyard over the next few years."
Adding: "Walking the Olympic Park is the best way to appreciate
just what a huge and exciting project is happening on our doorstep
as well as keeping active at the same time."
There is no need to book. Walkers can simply turn up to see
exactly how hosting the 2012 Games will transform this part of
London. Groups of twenty or over are however asked to contact
020 8430 2012 in advance.
Members of the public can take self guided walks with free
copies of the Walk the Olympic Park Guide available to download at
our 2012 Games
website.or e-mail
walktheolympicpark@newham.gov.uk
Guided walks are taking place at 11am and 2pm every Saturday and
Sunday until June 23.
The walks meet at Three Mill Lane, Bromley-by-Bow. The nearest
Underground station is Bromley-by-Bow on the District Line. The S2
and 108 buses stop outside the nearby Tesco supermarket.
Please wear flat shoes and suitable clothing. The walk takes two
hours to complete. Some terrain can be narrow and muddy (in
particular canal towpaths) and therefore not easily accessible for
pushchairs, wheelchairs and people with mobility impairments. There
are also some steps en-route. |
