More than 160 people of all ages came to the Ashburton Woodland Green Fun Day on Saturday, despite the unpredictable weather.

More than 50 children won prizes on the day, which were various plants for their gardens.

Young children also enjoyed a bouncy castle and a face painter at Rosetta Primary School on Sophia Road.

Extensive improvements have been made to Ashburton Woodland by Newham Council's Canning Town and Custom House Regeneration Project Team, in partnership with the council's parks service, Pinnacle psg and Groundwork East London.

Visitors to the event took the opportunity to make suggestions and submit ideas about what they want to see in the woodland in the future.

"Woodlands in urban areas are becoming increasingly rare yet are an important legacy of Newham's past.

"I hope that people come to value areas such as Ashburton Woodland."

Anyone who was unable to attend the event and would like to make suggestions for the woodlands can contact Sam Clark at the Canning Town and Custom House Regeneration Project on 020 8430 5450 or email: sam.clark@newham.gov.uk.
