Community forum football final

May 23, 2008

Newham's talented footballers will take to the pitch at West Ham United Football Club in the final of the inter-community forum challenge on Friday, May 30.

Everyone is invited to come and watch the five-a-side fancy footwork and cheer on their local team from 3pm to 9pm at the Boleyn Ground in Upton Park.

The event is the culmination of heats in each forum area where more than 2,200 young people and adults took part.

Executive adviser to community forums, Councillor Richard Crawford said: "The turnout for the heats has been outstanding with huge enthusiasm from all participants. It's great to have the support of West Ham United and I hope people will take the opportunity to visit the ground on finals day."

The eight to 11 year-old mixed girls and boys and 12 to 14 year-old boys will kick off at 3pm with the 12 to 16 year-old girls and 15 to 17 year boys on the pitch at 4pm. The adult men and women's final will follow at 6pm.

Competitors can win great prizes including trophies, medals, T-shirts and sports goods.

The Women's FA Cup and the FA Community Shield will be on show for people to take pictures.

There will also be refreshments and fun activities for the whole family including health MOTs and entertainment from the Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders.

The football tournament is the sixth in a series of community forum sports challenges and is part of the LIVE LIFE campaign, which aims to get people active.

There are nine community forums in Newham working to make each local area a safer, healthier and more interesting place to live.
