Home Office announcement today on tackling re-offending

July 16, 2008

Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales has welcomed today's announcement by the Home Office and Ministry of Justice that the London Borough of Newham will be taking part in the Diamond initiative to tackle re-offending.

He said: "We welcome initiatives that residents can have faith in and which support communities.

"This scheme will provide us with valuable resources and extra support to help in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and making the borough a safer place to live and work.

"In Newham, we have strong partnership working in place between the council, police, health and probation, in prevention, enforcement and intervention and this scheme will help to enhance this approach."
