Little disruption to services

July 16, 2008

The majority of Newham Council services are running as normal despite strike action involving members of the UNISON and Unite trade unions.

Local Service Centres and libraries remain open and ten of 16 domestic refuse rounds have been completed on time.

Only four schools are closed (Ravenscroft, Park, St Stephen's Nursery and Upton Cross) while a further ten are having shorter days.

We are continuing to make every effort to minimise the effects of the two-day strike on the most vulnerable residents.

We apologise to those people who may have suffered some disruption. We are making every effort to ensure our services return to normal as quickly as possible.

Those members of council staff who are taking action will not be paid for the days that they are on strike.
