Newham enjoys a flying royal visit

HRH the Crown Prince of the Netherlands flew into Newham for a tour of the borough.

Prince Williem-Alexander took the opportunity to tour the sites of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and received a briefing on progress.

Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, also welcomed the Prince to Workplace, Newham's successful job brokerage and employment training service, in Stratford where he toured the facility and met with staff, residents and members of the Newham Volunteers.

The tour was concluded with a visit to the Atherton Leisure Centre in Romford Road, Stratford, where he met with members of the Newham Sports Academy and enjoyed a fencing display from the Newham Swords.

Sir Robin said: "I'm extremely proud of Newham's many successful initiatives such as Workplace and the Newham Sports Academy and it was a pleasure to showcase them to our royal guest."
