Central Park in East Ham got the award for the fourth year
running, Stratford Park received its fifth award and Forest Lane
Park in Forest Gate has now retained the award for nine consecutive
years.
The parks join 742 other green spaces throughout the country,
which are all freely accessible to the public. The parks are judged
to be welcoming and well maintained with the support and
involvement of the local community.
Councillor Jo Corbett, executive member for culture, said: "This
is a resounding success for Newham parks and it is fantastic that
once again three of our parks are recognised among the nation's top
parks. They are popular for everything from sports, relaxation and
play to music and film performances, conservation activities, or
for simply having a picnic.
"Achieving a Green Flag recognises the contribution by council
staff, partner organisations and the local community who are
involved in the management and maintenance of our parks to a very
high standard."
This year's winners will celebrate their achievements and
collect their flags at a major ceremony in Liverpool on Thursday,
July 24.
There will celebratory green flag raising events across the
borough shortly. |
