Ride and stride in Newham

June 09, 2008

A cycling and walking map that traces the venues for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has been launched.

Newham Council, in conjunction with the Newham Cyclists and the Newham Striders, has put together the Ride and Stride Map, which is available free to residents.

The trails are ideal for all the family as well as for the more serious walker or cyclist.

Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, attended the launch. He said: "I love walking. It helps me to stay connected to life in Newham and the community as well as stay fit and healthy. That's why I'm so keen on this guide. Whether you walk or ride, these routes will give you a new perspective on this area."

Councillor Paul Brickell, executive member for the Olympics said: "This is a great way to explore your area and find out what's going on at the 2012 venues.

"So dig out your bike or walking shoes and join us in getting fit and active over the coming summer months."

Maps are available at libraries and Local Service Centres.
