Newham Council and
London Development Agency open children's playground
Children and families in Newham
can enjoy a fun new playground which was officially opened to the
public today by Newham Council and the London Development Agency
(LDA).
The new playground facility includes a SpaceNet
climbing frame, fully accessible roundabout, see-saws, a rocking
horse, swings and climbing equipment on Chandos Road, Stratford
which was relocated to make way for the Olympic Park
development.
The LDA worked in partnership with Newham Council to ensure that
the playground which was used by local residents was relocated and
that children could continue to enjoy the open space. A nearby
local community centre is also in the process of being built and
will open later on this year.
Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, who visited the site today,
said: "Newham does more than any other local authority to provide
opportunities for people to get together have fun and be active.
This new fun space will give local kids an outlet to burn energy
after school and on the weekends. With the great weather we've been
having in London lately, I'm sure the new equipment will be put to
good use.
"I thank the LDA for their work to develop this space. The
Council is investing more than £5.5 million in parks and facilities
over the next three years. I want all of the borough's parks to be
places for kids to be safe and have fun."
LDA Director, Olympic Legacy Development, Gareth Blacker, said:
"The London Development Agency is delighted that the Chandos Road
playground is now open for both children and families in Newham to
enjoy and that we were able to work in partnership with Newham
Council and use our Olympic investment to create this new and
improved local open space. We look forward to families enjoying the
new playground. "
