Disabled adults are being invited to take part in a Community Forum sports competition on Friday, March 13 at Newham Leisure Centre in Plaistow.

The competition starts at 10.30am and marks the start of the one year countdown to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Paralympics.

Participants can compete in boccia and athletics and there will also be a try out area for spectators to join in.

Contestants must pre-register their interest.

Teams can enter the boccia competition with a maximum squad of six members. Individual entrants will be entered in teams to represent their forum area based on where they live or work.

Professional coaching sessions can be arranged prior to the event subject to the availability of coaches.

Executive member for culture, Councillor Jo Corbett, said: "I encourage all Newham's disabled residents to register for this competition. Professional coaching is available in advance of the event for those who want to hone their talents in preparation for representing their community forum area. Good luck to everyone who takes part."

This event is being organised by Newham Council in partnership with GLL.
