Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales is encouraging people who attend the free Under the Stars music extravaganza to consider saving a life in the process.

People who attend Newham Council's four-night spectacular in Central Park, East Ham, will be able to watch information on the big screens or pick up leaflets about signing up to the NHS Organ Donor Register.

During the Mayor's Newham Show in July the council encouraged people to sign up and 63 people did so, including the Mayor.

Sir Robin said: "More than 10,000 people in the UK currently need a transplant. Of these, 1,000 each year - that's three a day - will die waiting as there are not enough organs available.

"I want to thank those who have registered in the past and encourage more to do the same. I hope people come along and enjoy the music and fun at Under the Stars and consider saving a life in the process."

People wanting information about the NHS Organ Donor Register can call the NHS Donor Line on 0300 123 2323. To find out about becoming a blood donor call 08457 711711.
