Under the Stars
2010
The poor weather couldn't dampen
the spirits of around 42,000 people who enjoyed a feast of free
music at the four-day Under the Stars extravaganza in East Ham's
Central Park.
The Newham Council-organised event over the Bank
Holiday weekend attracted a line-up of performers that included
Roberto Pla and his Big Band Latino, H Dhami and Mumzy Stranger,
Britain's Got Talent duo Signature, EastEnders actress turned
singer Preeya Kalidas, disco stars Heatwave, Odyssey and Gwen
Dickey's Rose Royce and the Royal Philharmonic Concert
Orchestra.
Young ones were also entertained with parties featuring Nat from
the CBBC's Boogie Beebies programme.
Mayor Sir Robin Wales said: "It was a great success despite the
poor weather, with thousands of people getting together to have fun
and enjoy the music."
Collections during the event raised money for the Mayor's Trust
Fund and the Pakistan flood appeal.
Due to windy weather, the fireworks display did not take place on
Sunday. These will now be used at the end of the Newham London
Waterfront Festival on September 18th.
