Chance for residents
to experience prestigious cycle ride
World-class cyclists will roll
into the borough on September 18th when the final stage of the
prestigious Tour of Britain comes to Newham.
One hundred cyclists will be hurtling along at speeds
of up to 50mph around a 12km circuit starting outside Newham
Dockside, 1000 Dockside Road, E16.
Before the professionals take their marks, there will be a unique
opportunity for members of the public to cycle most of the route
themselves.
Newham Council has 500 free entries, usually £20 per person, for
The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride. These are up for grabs
solely for Newham residents on a first come, first served basis.
Newham's residents can claim their free place on the Prostate
Cancer Charity Tour Ride by visiting
www.newham.gov.uk/tourofbritain.
If you are not a Newham resident but would still like to take part
in the tour ride event then please visit www.tourride.co.uk where
you can still sign-up and will also find out lots more information
about the day itself.
Newham's Young Mayor Kaycee de Belen will join the Newham
residents for the tour ride and is encouraging everyone in the
borough to experience this prestigious race.
Kaycee said: "I am a keen cyclist and I want to encourage
residents in the borough to get on their bikes for this unique
experience.
"Cycling is an excellent way to keep fit and it can also be a
great way to get together with friends and family and have fun. I
hope that as many residents as possible will be able to join me at
what promises to be an exciting event."
The race itself, which in the past has uncovered stars such as
future Olympic hopeful and Tour de France competitor Mark
Cavendish, will snake around Royal Albert Dock, with participants
taking in sights including the ExCeL Exhibition Centre and the
O2.
The Transport for London (TfL) route then runs along the Lower Lea
Crossing before heading back towards London City Airport and the
finishing line. For more information please visit

For those not keen on cycling there'll be plenty to do on the day
including a foodie's dream day out at the Newham London Waterfront
Festival. From 11am-9pm, 18 September, Royal Victoria Dock will
host a food festival with stallholders from across London among
local producers.
The event will conclude with a fantastic firework display at
8.45pm. For more information please visit
