Don't be duped by phone tax scam

break
Residents are being warned to be aware of a telephone scam informing them that they are due a rebate on their Council Tax.
The council has received reports of bogus callers, purporting to be council employees, stating that if the resident has been a regular Council Tax payer they are entitled to a rebate.

If customers are due a rebate, the council would write to them with a phone number provided. At no time would council staff ask for bank details over the phone to arrange for money to be repaid. Under no circumstances should residents give the information.

If you do receive a call you are unsure about asking for bank details, note down the details and report it to the council or police. If you want to verify whether a call is genuine call 0208 430 2000.
