Celebrate a Baltic Christmas

December 10, 2007

Stratford will be full of Lithuanian Christmas cheer with music, dance and a market selling traditional food, Christmas specialities, crafts and jewellery.
From December 13 to 15, the Lithuanian Christmas fair will take place at Meridian Square, outside Stratford Station. The fair will be open each day from 8am to 8pm.

On Friday, December 14 at 5pm, Mayor Sir Robin Wales and the Ambassador of Lithuania, Vygaudas Usackas will light up a Christmas tree donated to Newham by the Lithuanian Embassy.

The ceremony will be followed by Christmas carols and songs performed by children's choirs Moksliukas and Harmonija and folk dances performed by the Saduto dance group.

Sir Robin Wales said: "It is extremely generous of the people of Lithuania to present this tree to Newham.

"We have one of the most culturally diverse populations in the country and the Lithuanian community play an important part in making the borough the vibrant place that it is.

"Everyone can come along to the event to find out more about the Lithuanian culture and traditions and have fun."
