Blue Badge
exemptions
There are some areas of London
where the Blue Badge does not give any parking
advantage.
Parking at Airports
Special rules apply at Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. Contact
the airport for information before travelling.
Central London
The Blue Badge scheme does not apply in part of the borough of
Camden and the whole of The City, Kensington & Chelsea and
Westminster.
In these areas there is no free parking on meters or pay &
display, nor can you park on yellow lines. There are parking bays
for blue badge holders throughout the area. These bays are free.
Most have a maximum time limit, so remember to set your clock as
well as showing your badge when using these bays.
In addition to free parking bays, there are other concessions to
blue badge holders in the central area:
- On yellow lines you may stop to set down or pick up a blue
badge holder for as long as necessary. You may stop for up to
twenty minutes to collect or deliver goods provided there is no
loading ban.
- On meters/pay & display, one hour free parking after the
time paid for has run out in Westminster and Kensington &
Chelsea only.
There are special badge schemes for people with restricted
mobility who live, study or work in the area where the Blue Badge
scheme does not apply.
There is a special green badge for Camden, red for The City,
purple (formerly blue) for Kensington & Chelsea and white for
Westminster.
There are a handful of parking bays reserved for these badge
holders only - check the signs before parking so you do not
accidentally use these if you only have a blue badge.
If you think you may be entitled to a special badge for one of
these areas contact the relevant council.
