Consultations and
changes to RPZs
On this page you will find
information about consultations and proposed changes to Residential
Parking Zones (RPZs) in the borough.
Wakefield Street Area Parking Consultation
In response to requests from residents to local councillors, the
council is carrying out a public consultation into the need to
introduce a Residential Parking Zone (RPZ) in the area of the
borough centred on Wakefield Street.
The Wakefield Street area is experiencing a significant amount of
parking demand, especially following the extension of parking
controls in the Market Street RPZ in 2010. The council is aware
that these changes have further increased the parking pressures in
the local area.
This is your opportunity to let us know how you want the council to
manage the parking demand in your area. We want to know if you
think an RPZ should be introduced to help protect resident and
local business parking provision.
Tell us what you think

Tell us what you think by
completing our online form for the Wakefield Street area parking
consultation.
If there is sufficient support from this consultation to introduce
parking controls then a design will be prepared for further
consultation during June/July 2012. If there is insufficient
support the design process will not proceed any further. If you
have any queries please contact us by email at
wakefield.parkingconsultation@newham.gov.uk
or telephone on 020 3373 4325.
Please note, in order to control parking demand during the Olympic
and Paralympic Games, the hours that your RPZ operates are likely
to change to 8am to 9pm during Games Time only. This is likely to
be a borough-wide parking control and will not be affected by the
outcome of this consultation.
Recent parking consultation in Canning Town North
Not enough support was shown by residents and businesses in the
Canning Town area to implement a Residential Parking Zone
(RPZ).
The Council has, however, introduced sections of double yellow
lines primarily at junctions (in line with national guidelines) to
improve access and road safety.
There will be some amendments to the existing parking restrictions
and some new parking restrictions introduced into the commercial
area (to the west of the DLR tracks centred on Cody Road), to allow
some parking and improve access and road safety.
The new restrictions have been introduced on an experimental
basis.
Review of parking in five Stratford RPZs
The recent review of parking in the Stratford area (five existing
Stratford RPZS) showed that residents and businesses supported
making changes to the days of parking control in two of the
Stratford zones.
Stratford North East (SNE) and Stratford North West (SNW) RPZs
- The days of parking control are to be amended in SNE (link to
plan) and SNW (link to plan). In both of these zones parking
controls will stop operating on Saturday and Sunday, but will come
into force Monday to Friday. The hours of parking control will
remain the same - 8am to 6.30pm.
- In addition to the change in operational days, some new 30
minute maximum stay parking bays (as shared use bays) will be
introduced around all local schools, some community facilities and
some local shops.
- The restrictions at the existing dedicated short stay parking
places, which currently operate Monday to Sunday, 6am to 10pm, will
be amended so that they operate Monday to Saturday, 8am to
6.30pm.
These changes are programmed to take place on-street during
mid-May 2012.
Stratford Central (S), Stratford South East (SSE) and Stratford
South West (SSW) RPZs
It is proposed that these changes are put into place
experimentally by mid-June 2012.
Requests for local amendments (changes to parking bays
etc)
The review asked whether residents and businesses would like
amendments to be made to parking places in their roads. A large
number of requests were received during the review and these are
being currently being assessed. It is expected that all requests
will be considered during the summer and any changes approved will
be put into place in the autumn after the 2012 Games.
Possible extension of Stratford North East (Area F) and
Stratford North West (Area E) RPZs
Extension of Stratford North East (SNE) RPZ
Responses to the second stage consultation recently undertaken
in Area F (centred on Knox Road) showed that a number of the roads
supported inclusion within the adjacent SNE zone.
All the roads to the west of Margery Park Road (but not including
Margery Park Road) supported the implementation of parking
controls. Local councillors have supported their responses and the
council has approved the extension of SNE zone.
See a map showing the planned extension of the Stratford North East
RPZ
The extension (in line with the rest of SNE zone) will operate
Monday to Friday, 8am to 6.30pm. The RPZ is expected to be extended
experimentally by the end of May 2012.
Extension of Stratford North West (SNW) RPZ
Following a second stage consultation recently undertaken in
Area E (centred on Heyworth Road) indicated that all roads
consulted supported inclusion within the adjacent SNW zone.
All the roads to the north of Buckingham Road (including Buckingham
Road) supported the implementation of parking controls. Local
councillors have supported their responses and the council has
approved the extension of SNW.
See a map showing the planned extension of the Stratford North West
RPZ (pdf)
The extension (in line with the rest of SNW zone) will operate
Monday to Friday, 8am to 6.30pm. The RPZ will be extended
experimentally by the end of May 2012.
Extension of Green Street North RPZ
The responses of the second stage consultation recently undertaken
in the roads to the west of Green Street (previously known as Area
C) showed that there was support to introduce parking
controls.
Local councillors agreed that the entire consultation area be
implemented as an extension to the existing Green Street East (GSE)
RPZ. The new zone will however, become known as the Green Street
North (GSN) RPZ.
See a map showing the Green Street North RPZ extension plans
(pdf)
GSN (existing and extension) will operate Monday to Saturday, 8am
to 6.30pm. The RPZ will be implemented as an experiment on 1 June
2012. The signs in the existing GSE zone will also be amended to
show the GSN logo by 1 June 2012.
All residents and businesses within the extension area (west of
Green Street) will have received permit application packs. Valid
permits must be displayed from 1 June 2012.
Those residents (and businesses) with an existing GSE permit should
not change their permit. GSE permits will be valid in the new GSN
RPZ until their stated expiry date.
