Be a frost
monitor
If you are out and about on the
streets of Newham early in the morning, you could be a Frost
Monitor.
Help us with our winter service by joining our
voluntary team.
From the end of October until mid April, our in-house team
are on standby, ready to respond to any forecast of icy roads. They
will be getting the gritting lorries out at night to spread salt on
our main roads, bus routes and emergency services accesses etc. to
prevent ice forming on them and keeping them safe for road
users.
Frost Monitors help us by reporting frost or icy patches on our
roads and pavements during the winter months. This information is
then used to check the effectiveness of our winter service and
accuracy of forecasts giving us first hand information about any
problem areas and guiding us to where and when to prevent frost by
spreading salt.
Most frost conditions in our streets occur early in the morning
before the main rush-hour period. This is why we particularly need
Frost Monitors who are out and about early in the morning to join
our team.
We would also like to know of any frosty or icy conditions on our
streets at other times.
If you would like to help, please
email the Frost
Monitor.
