The Passenger
Transport Service
Newham Council's Passenger
Transport Services provide transport for people who cannot use
scheduled transport services such as buses and trains.
They include services such as mini-buses that may come to
your door, car schemes that help with transport to medical
appointments and taxi companies that have wheelchair accessible
vehicles.
Safe accessible transport
The Passenger Transport Service provides safe, accessible
transport solutions for passengers with all different kinds of
needs. We provide daily transportation of vulnerable
children/youths to and from 39 schools, 4 Colleges and elderly
service users' to 11 day Centres throughout the borough. We operate
approximately 117 bus routes and 20 taxi routes serving, on
average, 450 vulnerable service users daily.
The Passenger Transport Service also undertakes daily ad hoc
bookings between 9.30am and 2.00pm and after 4.00pm. As well as
directly providing transport for various council services we
arrange external transport (local coach and taxi companies) if we
are unable to provide the type of vehicle requested or the
specified time of travel.
The service employs 227 staff as either escorts or drivers and a
fleet of approximately 95 vehicles are in use on a daily basis.
Supporting the operation is a small office consisting of 1 Manager,
2 Supervisors, 1 Transport Analyst and 3 administrative assistants.
The staff and vehicles are located at the Central Depot, Folkestone
Road.
