Speed & red light
cameras
We install speed and red light
cameras although it's up to the Metropolitan Police to maintain
them and collect fines.
What are they?
Speed Cameras record violations to existing speed limits. They
usually are triggered by speeding vehicles and take a record of
sure violation.
Red Light Cameras work in a similar way, but catch drivers who
cross Traffic Signal stop lines when their signals is on red.
Why are they used?
Speed Cameras are used on routes which have a high number of
crashes caused by excessive speed.
Red Light Cameras are used at Traffic Signalled Junction where
there have been a large number of crashes caused by drivers failing
to stop at red lights.
Where are they used?
Such equipment is expensive to install and maintain and so are only
installed along major routes in the borough where excessive speed
is a problem.
Speed Cameras tend to be installed along routes and the route is
signed accordingly. A warning is placed prior to any signalled
junction that have red light cameras.
