Choosing Your
Builder
If you are planning to use a
builder for any work on your property, it is important to consider
your choice very carefully.
This is likely to be one of the biggest investments you
are ever likely to make, so you should thoroughly check any builder
before employing their services.
For large projects, consider employing an independent
professional to advise you i.e. an architect, a surveyor or a
building engineer. Please note, that under no circumstances can the
council recommend a builder, architect, surveyor or building
engineer.
Here are a few things you should consider before employing
a builder:
- Discuss the extent of the contractual arrangement with
the builder with your professional adviser.
- Does it involve the preparation of plans only or is site
supervision part of the package?
- If you consider your project too small to require a
professional, get advice from someone within the construction
industry that you know and trust.
