What counts as abuse?
Abuse can happen in many different forms: Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Neglect, Psychological/Emotional Abuse, Discriminatory Abuse, and Institutional Abuse. Our leaflet Say NO to abuse explains this in more detailmore...
Who could be an abuser?
Anyone can be an abuser. It could be someone you know or a stranger. The Safeguarding Adults team will provide support and assistance where the abuse has been carried out by someone who you know and trust for example a carer, family member or friend.
Where can abuse happen?
Anywhere: it could be in your own home, a residential or nursing home, day centre, social club, adult education centre, hospital, GP surgery, or any public place.
What do the terms Adult Protection, Adult Abuse and Safeguarding Adults mean?
They mean the same thing. The Safeguarding Adults Team is committed to preventing and keeping adults safe from abuse.
