Gaming machines are no longer permitted in premises that
do not hold either a licence under the Gambling Act 2005 or the
Licensing Act 2003. This includes take-aways, cafes and taxi
offices.
A limited number of gaming machines are permitted in bingo
premises, betting shops, racetracks and in premises licensed to
sell alcohol. (Further details from the Licensing Team).
Permits issued by us may also give consent to have gaming
machines in unlicensed family entertainment centres or more than
two machines in premises licensed to sell alcohol. (Further details
can be found in Newham's Gambling Policy).
Amusement arcades fall into two categories. In family entertainment
centres a licence is required to provide low stake and low prize
gaming machines where there are no age restrictions. Details of the
machines stakes and prizes are included in the Gambling Policy.
Where higher stake and higher prize gaming machines are available,
that is where the stake is over or equal to 50p and the maxium
prize is £35 or over again a licence is required. It is also
necessary to separate this from other areas of the premises to
ensure that under 18 year olds are not allowed into this area.
