Building Control

Building Control Service Teams

The main function of the Building Control service ensures that buildings are constructed properly and in accordance with current standards and regulations.

This process involves the checking of drawings, specifications and calculations prior to work commencing and by site inspection of works in progress. The principal aims of our Building Regulations are the health and safety of people in and around buildings, conservation of fuel and power and ensuring access and facilities for all people.

The BC Service is spilt into three sections - the All Borough Team, JLAB (Joint London Authority Building control) Team and the Special Projects Team.

Areas of responsibility

The All Borough team is responsible for dealing with:

  • General building work across the borough
  • Major projects in Canning Town
  • Excel

The JLAB team is responsible for dealing with:

  • Olympic park projects

The Special Projects team is responsible for dealing with:

  • Stratford City Major projects
  • Athletes Village - 2012 project

Duty Officer Service

The Council operates a general advisory service for applicants and members of the public. A duty building control officer is available during normal working hours (9am - 5pm) to give general procedural and other advice, to answer any site specific, factual matters. Please contact Building Control reception on Tel: 020 8430 2000 and ask for the duty building control officer.
