Building Schools for the Future
How will BSF benefit
Newham?
The BSF project brings over £200 million
in government funding to Newham, providing an unparalleled
opportunity to accelerate the transformation of education in the
Borough.

Without a major funding injection it would be impossible
to tackle important issues around education in anything but a
piecemeal way and many schools would continue to suffer from
inadequate, inappropriate or insufficient facilities and resources.
This includes school buildings at the end of their useful
lifecycle; classrooms built for a past era; poor teaching and
learning facilities; buildings not designed for the use of ICT and
a lack of specialist facilities.
Over the next 10-15 years, BSF investment will be used to tackle
these issues and enable schools to develop more flexible
accommodation, opening up opportunities for a much wider range of
innovation in learning and teaching. The BSF programme is certainly
far more than simply remodelling or renewing buildings and it will
be tailored to meet the educational needs of Newham's secondary
schools by:
-
Providing bright, exciting new buildings that
are constructed to suit the schools' current and future
needs
-
Improving facilities, enabling schools to offer a
wider variety of curriculum subjects
-
Providing learning environments which are safer, more
comfortable and which promote further learning and positive
behaviour
-
Enabling young people to take advantages of future
opportunities such as those provided by the opening of the direct
rail link to Europe and the Olympics
-
Install extensive Information Communication
Technology Services (ICT) that will enhance teaching and learning
opportunities
-
Allowing schools to engage the wider community
through extended service provisions in schools and community access
to school facilities
BSF will ensure that secondary schools in Newham are
able to serve both current and emerging communities as Newham is
transformed by the Olympic lead regeneration. |
