What is domestic energy efficiency? And why is it important?
In Britain, as in most developed countries, too much of the energy we use in the home is wasted. This is costing us a lot of unnecessary money. Most methods to provide the energy we use are reliant on the burning of coal, oil or gas. This releases polluting gases and damages the environment and our health. These fuels are formed over millions of years and many experts believe they are beginning to run out, this has led to increasing prices and to a major push for energy efficiency and alternative sources of energy. We can improve the energy efficiency of our homes by fitting cavity wall or loft insulation, by using more efficient appliances and heating systems, and through small changes in our daily lifestyle such as switching off appliances not in use. These measures can save individuals a lot of money and can lead to health benefits for both ourselevs and the environment.
