Eligibility for Care Services

How we assess your social care needs

We aim to carry out an assessment of your needs in partnership with you and with other people you would like to have included.
Wherever possible we aim to cut out unhelpful duplication and delay by working together with colleagues from health agencies and other council departments. We may ask, when it is appropriate, for your permission to share information about you with colleagues from health agencies.

You may be eligible for a direct payment to enable you to arrange and purchase the support you need to live independently - further information about direct payments will be provided during the assessment of your needs.

We will regularly review the services you receive. This may mean that your services may increase, change or reduce to ensure that they continue to meet your needs.

Direct Services

If you are eligible for social care services you may also be eligible for some or all of the services and concessions that can be directly arranged at your local service centre or the contact centre. These include:

  • Welfare benefits advice
  • Concessionary fare/Freedom Pass
  • Blue badges
  • Taxicard/Dial-a-Ride scheme
  • NeAT (Newham Advanced Telecare)
We have introduced a new range of services to assist people with living in their own homes. Central to this is telecare, which provides assurances to people that if anything happens to them, help will be summoned quickly and automatically. Please contact us if you feel that you, or someone you care for, would benefit from NeAT.
