Equality and Diversity Policy

We believe that everyone in Newham should be treated fairly, without discrimination and prejudice, and have equal access to our services, employment and training opportunities and citizen participation.

We believe that these should be delivered regardless of a person's race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, language, HIV status, religion, national or social origin or class.
  • Disability Equality Scheme

Newham Council is pleased to publish our first Disability Equality Scheme (DES). The DES sets out an action plan for the next three years, and describes the next steps we will take, to play our part in creating a borough where disabled people can live and work as full and active citizens.

  • Equality Standard for Local Government

The Equality standard for local government aims to ensure that local authorities consider equality issues at all levels of council policy and practice.
