External Funding Opportunities
Main Areas of
Work
The External Funding Team (EFT) provides
information and advice on external funding opportunities to
organisations based in Newham or who work with Newham
residents.
The team specialises in both domestic and European funds and
can help organisations access funds to support specific
projects.
The External Funding Team (EFT) works in these areas:
Providing information and advice on funding
opportunities
This can include programmes from funders such as the London
Development Agency (LDA), National Lottery, Sports England,
Heritage Lottery, Arts Council, European funding (including ERDF
and ESF), and the Learning & Skills Council (LSC) to name but a
few. For more information please see our
Glossary.
We provide advice and guidance on completing
applications and offer a proofreading service. We also provide
follow-up support to help organisations set up monitoring and
financial systems.
Funding Bulletins
We produce a monthly funding bulletins and targeted
information for specific groups relating to current and new
funding opportunities. The funding bulletin is e-mailed to over
350 organisations and is also posted on this website. If you
would like to be added to the funding bulletin mailing list
please email

Funding Searches
There are a variety of databases that enable agencies and
organisations to search for funding (see
How do I find out about current funding
opportunities? in our FAQs section). The one that the London
Borough of Newham uses is
Grantnet. If you would prefer, we can also
run a database search for you. Simply fill out the
External Funding Search online form and we
promise to get back to you within 2 weeks.
Strategic Work
The External Funding Team supports the development
of strategies and policies (e.g. the Regeneration Strategy). We
also actively contribute to the development of new funding
programmes by attending working groups and consultation events at a
regional and national level, to ensure that Newham is considered a
high priority for funders.
The team also makes available up-to-date labour market statistics
by working with the Newham Household Panel, and other
information providers such as NOMIS
(NOMIS
website) and Newham Neighbourhood Information Management System
NIMS (NIMS website).
Managing Funds and Projects
The council often acts as accountable body for
funding in partnership with local organisations and the team often
lead this work. We have acted as accountable body for a number of
high profile Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) Programmes such as
Green Street SRB, Stratford Tomorrow's City, and
Access to
Excellence
We also lead on the accountable body role for the West Ham &
Plaistow New Deal for Communities Programme (WH&PNDC), which
looks at improving the lives of people in the West Ham &
Plaistow area. The programme, worth £55 million, began in 2000 and
will continue until 2010. For more on WH&PNDC visit

Two Smaller projects the team has been involved in include, the
highly successful ESF Construction project and a transnational
project working with Russian voluntary sector partners in the field
of inclusive education.
